Cumbria based family business, John Elliot Ltd, bought their first JCB 3CX in 1985 and have been using JCB Finance to fund their JCBs and other machinery and commercial vehicles ever since.
The business started out in agricultural contracting and has developed into a multi-disciplined specialist contractor offering a wide range of services including drainage, sewage works, construction, maintenance and plant hire. Director Mark Elliot explains how 3 generations are now involved in the family business,
“My dad started farming here in 1969 and from there the family business grew. Now, as well as myself and my dad being involved in the business, my sons David and Christopher are also a part of it. David is involved in office administration and Christopher is an operator and fitter.”
Working across Cumbria, the business carries out work for the local County Council, utilities and national companies. The business has a long history of working with JCB Finance,
“We started using JCBs in 1985 which is when we first became acquainted with JCB Finance. We’ve run quite a few 3CXs over the years and we just keep changing them when ready. And we now have three or four of the latest spec and they're a good machine.”
As well as JCBs, John Elliot Limited also finance a range of new and used Scania and DAF commercial vehicles, tippers, road sweepers and a dumper.
They typically use HP Plus from JCB Finance to finance their equipment, helping spread the cost whilst enabling accurate budgeting with a fixed rate of interest. Due to the way interest is calculated, savings on interest can be made if you pay off lumpsums (which don’t have to be planned in advance) and their facility also offers the option to take an unplanned payment holiday at short notice if needed.
Mark explains how competitive rates and the strong relationship with their local representatives over the years has made JCB Finance their lender of choice,
“We've always received a good service for as long as I can remember. We've always just got on. On the occasions that we have compared the price like for like, because we do have other finance companies ringing quite regularly, it confirms JCB Finance are very competitive.”
John Elliot Limited purchased their JCBs from their local dealer Scot JCB. When financing a machine from authorised JCB distributors, customers can be confident of a smooth joined up service right from the start, from looking at the machine, to discussing finance, delivery and after service.
“We have a very good relationship with Scot JCB. The road sweepers that we run have JCB engines in them, so we deal with Scots for those as well as the diggers. The service is great.”
At JCB Finance we understand the importance of customers being able to acquire the finance they need quickly, and we work hard to make this as simple and seamless as possible,
“I would recommend JCB Finance every time without a doubt. The best thing for us now is the ease of it. We just pick up the phone, tell you what we are looking at, what terms we want, how much we want to put down and then it's finished. It's straightforward. I can't really say anything better. It's a good all-round service that works.”
